Environmental Sustainability Policy
Beech Park Golf Club is the custodian of a significant area of park land within the Rathcoole area of County Dublin and was formerly a country estate house. The course is home to a diverse range of wildlife and flora. As trustees of such a unique estate, we take our environmental and land management responsibilities very seriously. BPGC is committed to the maintenance and preservation of the golf course for future generations in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
We accept that we must work to preserve the environmental sustainability of the planet, at all levels of our operations – in our own practice, as a participant in a community of practice, and as a participant in the Irish social discourse. BPGC aspires to minimise its impact on our environment and maximise the effective use of resources. We strive to achieve this by increasing communication and awareness of our efforts in accordance with this policy and fostering responsible environmental behaviour amongst staff, volunteers, and users at all levels.
BPGC is committed not only to complying with applicable law in all of its operations but to minimise risks and impacts through the development of robust and documented systems to implement, measure, monitor, and disseminate excellent environmental performance both within its operations and to the broader community.
PURPOSE : The Management Board of Beech Park Golf Club endorses the adoption of environmentally-friendly practices throughout the course and clubhouse. It realises the importance of such practices not only locally, but nationally and globally. These practices include nature and landscape conservation, waste minimisation and recycling, energy efficiency, minimal use of chemicals and water resource management. This Environmental Sustainability Policy aims to integrate a philosophy of sustainable development into all the club’s activities and to establish and promote sound environmental practice in our operations.
POLICY : In order to promote good environmental practices and to minimising its impact on our environment, BPGC commits itself to the following:
• Identifying the significant environmental impacts of our activities. Developing suitable objectives, targets and management programmes. Applying appropriate operational procedures to minimise our environmental impact.
• Actively improving biodiversity by restoring native species of trees and plants
• Creating and maintenance of natural habitats for greater biodiversity by direct intervention or Leave to Nature (LTN) methods as appropriate off-course including open, wooded and water areas.
• Control and/or removal of invasive non-native species
• Achieving sustainability and self-sufficiency by harvesting water for use on the course and within the clubhouse from natural sources.
• Complying with relevant legislation, regulation and other requirements relating to our environmental impact and to improve employees' understanding and commitment to environment practices through structured communications and training in a safe working environment,
• Constantly striving to prevent pollution, minimising our inputs of utilities and resources and the outputs of emissions to the atmosphere, effluents to waters/sewers and wastes to disposal facilities, endeavouring to re-use, recovering or recycling materials where practicable,
• Providing a safe and healthful workplace,
• Having an environmentally sustainable aware culture, where responsibility is assigned and understood,
• Being an environmentally responsible neighbour in our community,
• Developing and maintaining constructive relationships with relevant local council and environmental organisations to ensure good communications and sourcing of best advice.
• Develop, implement and maintain an effective Environmental Management Plan incorporating the goals of this policy that will introduce sustainable operating procedures and practices to minimise Beech Park Golf Club's overall impact on the environment.
• Striving for and taking steps to ensure continual improvement in overall environmental performance and understanding.
• Using, in our own operations, processes that do not adversely affect the environment,
• Ensuring the responsible use of energy throughout the organisation.
• Openly communicating our Environmental Sustainability Policy to employees, contractors, volunteers, members and the public, thereby educating and motivating them to act in an environmentally responsible manner.
• Conducting rigorous audits, evaluations, and self-assessments of the implementation of this policy,
• Working with suppliers who promote sound environmental practices.
